SAKA announced the official completion of their 2016/17 kiteboarding season this week and the prize giving ceremony will be held at the end of April in Blouberg Strand. It would have been a close call between Sjoukje and her fiercest rivals – Sjoske Tuinstra from Utrecht, Michelle Sky Hayward and Rut Gouws. The same gale force “Black South Easter” that jeopardized this year’s Cape Argus Cycle tour, also forced the South African Kitesurfing Association (SAKA) to cancel the freestyle event in which Sjoukje hoped to reclaim her turf as national champ. “It will be great to prove that chicks can also fly!” “I was so excited to learn that a Queen of the Air event will be included in next year’s Big Air competition – now THAT is a challenge I look forward to! ![]() ![]() It was great seeing all the old faces and contacts in the trade and catching up. “Although last Saturday’s final round of the National Seven Stars Kiteboarding Series in Blouberg Strand was a bit of an anti-climax when they had to cancel the Freestyle events due to extreme wind, it was well worth being there. Her next goal is to also shape up the SIREN kiteboarding shop in Langebaan that she started in 2011 and now wants to boost during the Easter Season with special reduced prices during the off-season whilst she gets herself in shape for the Queen of the Air competition next year. even on the road on an electric unicycle! and literally and figuratively on a roll. True to her word, Langebaan’s former world speed kiteboarding champ Sjoukje Bredenkamp is BACK on track after a “Motherhood Sabbatical” of five years. ![]()
